In 1949, this charity event was brought to life through the actions of Sam E. Woods, the then US-Consul General in Munich, who invited guests to his home in order to collect donations for the suffering people of Munich. Fifty guests accepted his invitation and the event was so successful that the women of the German-American Women’s Club of Munich decided to repeat the Silver Tea every year.
Since that first occasion, the German-American Women’s Club has annually invited guests from government, industry and society to its Silver Tea, which held in the Kaisersaal of the Residenz.
About 500 guests have participated at the 70th Silver Tea event in Munich on 6th November 2019. The club is currently supporting 16 charitable institutions in the greater Munich area. At the occasion of the 70th Silver Tea the two donation cheques of 10,000 euros each presented to the “Ambulante Kinderhospiz München“ and “Condrobs”.
Furthermore, the German American Women’s Club Munich, together with 31 partner clubs in the Federation (Verband) of the German American Women’s Clubs, VDAC, supports the German American Student Exchange Program. It is the largest private exchange program of its type in Germany.
Every year, over 50 American and German students study abroad. German students receive a scholarship from the American partner universities and American students receive a scholarship from the VDAC to finance their time in Germany.

Munich, July 2019 – basic AG has appointed Dr. Pantelis Christian Poetis (60) as a new member of the Supervisory Board. Dr. Poetis will succeed Nils El Accad (CEO Organic Foods & Café).
With Dr. Pantelis Christian Poetis, basic gains a strategy and marketing expert and connoisseur of the food logistics and retail industry as a member of the supervisory board. Together with customers and cooperation partners from the food retail trade, food transport logistics and the automotive industry, the POWERGROUP developed the initiative WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY for the benefit of table organizations on three continents. The Patty’s Child Clinics Pakistan (PCCP) team is proud to announce that we were able to start the construction work for the second clinic in Mianwal Ranjha, Mandi Bahauddin District, last week. PCCP offers mothers-to-be comprehensive medical care from the first days of their pregnancies through to delivery, examination and vaccination of the newborn children and all follow-up treatment.
Patricia Poetis, initiator of the project, said: “This is wonderful news. In Chillianwala, we were able to give almost 3,500 children a smooth start to life and treated over 10,000 mothers medically. We see every day how important this work is, and are especially grateful to our supporters – the Lions Foundation International, the Lions Foundation Germany, and the great helpers of the Lions Club Chillianwala, who did everything in their power to enable the construction of a new clinic.”
The PCCP in Chillianwala is very popular and thanks to the good medical equipment of the hospital, the death rate of mother and child at birth has been reduced to zero.
The Managing Director of Siemens Healthcare Pakistan, Khurram Jameel, whom Patricia Poetis met in person during a delegation trip of Bavarian entrepreneurs in Pakistan in October 2018, immediately recognised the importance of the project and assured the support of Siemens Healthcare for this and further clinics.
